Lorie Locara

Perfection is a myth. Dying to self is reality.

I was born in Davao. Tagum City, Davao del Norte, to be exact. But since my father’s home town was in Iloilo province, he decided that we migrate back when I was five years old. Not just to take a job opportunity, but also because he deemed education in Iloilo more suited to my insatiable curiosity and hunger for knowledge.

Indeed I have no regrets growing up in Iloilo. I still believe, that despite the things that Iloilo lacks, the talent and the character of the Ilonggo is unparalleled. Though the Ilonggo may have his or her lapses, but once he/she realizes the potential in him/herself, and that the task at hand is worth the reward, I am sure that there would be no stopping the Ilonggo.

I was a writer before I was a blogger. My penchant for words had roots even when I was a kid. When I was younger, you would be more likely to see me curled up somewhere with a book in my hands. I was fascinated with everything on print, so when writing activities (NOT handwriting, ok? I sucked at handwriting exercises!) started in school, my teachers saw my creativity and grasp of vocabulary and encouraged me to develop the craft. It’s a good thing I only encountered detractors when I was already in college. At least then, I had loved writing enough not to be totally discouraged by their words.

I started blogging when my friend Jaja Campos, who was my batchmate in Pisay Diliman, offered me hosting space in her massive hosting account. I developed my own website through Microsoft FrontPage, FTP’d it myself to her server, and tweaked the journal and the poems there. I enjoyed the developing more than the blogging, actually.

I gave it up when she had to close down her account, and I had to go back to school. I went back to blogging in late 2003 when I desperately needed therapy to get over an obsession. I haven’t stopped since.

Today, I have numerous blogs. The most up-to-date one on my personal life is up at Multiply. The rest are for monetization. I like money, and I like it a lot. :p

I have a public though unpromoted blog for my dark side, and I also have an archive of my deepest darkest secrets, which I decided to keep private, after a snarky evil guy set out to destroy me on Google and his blogs.

I since decided to be more prudent, and kept the most personal of my entries for my network only on Multiply. I happen to like attention, and my churchmates, who hang out mostly on Multiply can at least give me emotional support when I’m splitting out of my skin.

The bottom line is: I blog because I deem it way, way cheaper than therapy. And I blog because.. I have a chronic case of verbal diarrhea. Or, as my friend Jay Gotera put it, verbal cholera. ;)

Blogs:

My Multiply site is too personal for me to release here, but if you want to make friends, do drop a note at any of those blogs or at lorie.hates.spam@gmail.com.
